Calling all writers! Merida English Library is launching a weekly forum for writers and aspiring scriveners on Wednesdays at 7 p.m. at the library in Colonia Centro. The sessions beginning Wednesday Jan. 27 will include mutual support and an open-mike opportunity for readings.

Meanwhile, Merida English Library’s Saturday Lecture Series continues Saturday Jan. 30 with a talk on “The Great Yucatecan Novel.”

James Gunn, a Spanish Literature professor, will discuss an award-winning novel set in Yucatan: “Península, Península”, by Hernán Lara Zavala. The talk beginning at 11 a.m. is free and open to the public. Donations are accepted.

The lecture will be followed by MEL’s annual membership meeting at 1 p.m. Saturday Jan. 30.  The meeting at which the organization’s programs, future plans and finances will be discussed, is open to all MEL members.
