Hacienda Tres Ríos, an environmentally responsible deluxe resort, acknowledged by the Ministry of Tourism as a “regional and national model for the development of sustainable tourism”, is the subject of a feature article by the prestigious México Desconocido, a national distribution magazine.
This publication, a leader in its field, has nominated the resort as one of the best green hotels in the Mexican southeast which, among many other awards, has also been the recipient of the Best Green Initiative award by Perspective Magazine as it dedicates part of its resources to study local ecosystems.
The article emphasizes that Hacienda Tres Ríos was constructed with local materials and with technologies that protect nature, thus the buildings have been placed on top of columns almost 10 feet above ground in order not to interrupt the natural flow of mangrove water.
Additionally, it also points out that waste is recycled, cold water from the wells is used to cool the air conditioning system, and that heat generated from these is used to heat water. Besides, it also has a desalination plant with a titanium covering that treats and filters water thus avoiding the use of the water from the aquifers.
Another highlight is that since the Park’s opening, close to 2 hectares of mangrove jungle have been reforested with over 50,000 plants, that it has 120 flora species and 131 animal species in its 60 hectares of natural reserve. The staff receives continuous environmental education, which includes waste management and environmental contingency actions.
Hacienda Tres Ríos is a luxury resort that resembles an antique farm-house with mahogany and Mexican marble details, in every suite there are Egyptian cotton sheets, extra comfortable mattresses and a pillow menu to choose from. It offers two pools, a deluxe spa, a temazcal, three natural rivers, eight restaurants and bars, everything as part of the All Inclusive Plan.
The resort offers special tours that will take you through mangrove forests or to practice snorkeling in one of its 10 sinkholes. You can take one of the tours to the plant nursery or experience Sense Adventure, besides the possibility of doing tequila and wine tastings.
