Specialists from the General Hospital “Dr. Augustin O’Horán” in Mérida successfully performed the eighth multiple organ harvesting this year in the state of Yucatán, which improved the quality of life of three people who were waiting for kidney and liver donation.
This donation was made possible by altruism of a family in the municipality of Valladolid, who gave consent to donate organs of their deceased family member of 27 years to two male recipients, who were 45 and 35 years old respectively.
Meanwhile, the liver, was sent on a private flight to ISSSTE National Medical Center “20 de Noviembre” in Mexico City.
The head of the Ministry of Health of Yucatán (SSY), Jorge Eduardo Mendoza Mézquita, recognized the work of medical personnel and nurses who participated in a professional and coordinated manner during the donation and transplantation processes.
For his part, Jorge Martinez Ulloa Torres, director of the Yucatan State Transplant Center (CEETRY), said that so far this year 10 kidney transplants have been successfully performed by local doctors in the state of Yucatán.
Finally, Ulloa Torres also recognized the importance of the coordinated work between the institutions involved, in order to create alliances for the acquisiton of organs, and to carry out the transplants, and thereby achieve a greater benefit for larger number of Mexicans that require a transplant.
