DJ Dannic, a leading dee-jay on the international electronic dance-music scene, is coming to Cancun March 12 to perform at the Ocean Beach Club for Inception Festival. The Yucatan Times had a chance to interview Dannic, a Netherlands native, via email, and this is what he had to say about Cancun’s music scene and his feelings about Mexico.

  • TYT: What do you think about Cancun and the Riviera Maya as a major electronic festival spot worldwide?

DJ Dannic:  I think it’s great! Mexico is one of the most beautiful places in the world with a huge music scene, and events like EDM Mexico and The Day After Festival really puts the region on the map. For Cancun to be seen as a major destination is only a positive thing, especially in our scene. I’m looking forward to coming back to play Grand Oasis for Inception Festival on March 12th, you guys always bring the party!

  • TYT:  What is your favorite part about producing music?

DJD:  That has to be connecting with people all over the world through my music, it is an amazing feeling and getting to play and travel all over the planet with my sound is a dream come true – my fans are so important to me, I’d be nowhere without them!

  • TYT:  What class of the Electronic genre do you consider to be positioned in? Or have you created your own genre?

DJD:  My music is very much groovy, big-room house that gets people dancing – but the groove and melodies are the most important thing to me in my productions, I want to get people moving! The groove is always there in my music and is something I’ve definitely been looking for when people have come along to the demo drops for my new label, Fonk Recordings.

  • TYT:  What is your mission upon arriving (and performing) in Mexico?

DJD:  To bring the good vibes, eat a lot of delicious Mexican food and get everyone dancing! I always love returning to Mexico, you guys really know how to party!

  • What does DJ Dannic have to say to the young people of the Yucatan Peninsula?

DJD:  Thank you for all your support, it’s always so nice to be welcomed back to your beautiful country and I hope to see you all at a Dannic show soon!
