Controller error suspected in near-miss at Merida airport

Presumed human error by a flight controller at the International Airport of Merida “Manuel Crescencio Rejon” almost caused the collision between two aircraft on Wednesday July 13.

The controller allegedly authorized an aircraft takeoff and landing another simultaneously on the same runway.

The pilots of the aircraft involved immediately stopped to avoid collision.

The recordings between the pilot of the aircraft and the flight controller were sent to the aeronautical authority while the cause of the incident is investigated.

Meanwhile, the controller at Merida International Airport has been separated from service until such time as the opinion issued by the aviation authority.
