COZUMEL — A rare armed robbery of tourists was reported last week in Cozumel, as a group of four Spaniards who were touring the island’s isolated east coast and made a stop at “El Mirador” were assaulted at gunpoint by a pair of subjects who took their belongings and car keys and fled in a black Jetta.
The four Spanish tourists were robbed at “El Mirador” tourist center on the eastern side of the island, and sought help from a lifeguard’s vehicle passing by. The victims recounted that they had been assaulted by two subjects who pointed a gun at them to remove all their belongings and even the key of the vehicle they had rented to go around the island.
The tourists were transported to the city, although it was near kilometer 10 of the cross-road where they met a police patrol and gave him the report of the events, noting they had taken all their belongings and sped away in a black Jetta, though they didn’t observe the license plate numbers due to their distress over the incident.
