San Miguel de Allende is not only a World Heritage Site and one of Mexico’s premier destinations located in the state of Guanajuato, it is also the starting line for the Guanajuato Wine Route. During many of the Guanajuato wine tours you will find out how and why this wine region is booming and why it’s becoming so popular among wine lovers, both locals and foreigners alike.
You will discover a new appreciation for what is about to become another “hit” of the new exploding “foodie” scene in San Miguel de Allende… and the best part is that you can enjoy it with a glass of wine in hand!
There are four wineries that essentially make up this tour just outside of the colonial city of San Miguel de Allende.
Exploring the Wineries along the Guanajuato Mexico Wine Route
One of the most popular wineries in the San Miguel area is the Vega Manchon winery known by the name of its wine label, Cuna de Tierra. Vega Manchon winery is only 20-minutes away from San Miguel, in the town of Dolores Hidalgo. After a visit to Vega Manchon’s wine cellars you will find phenomenal wine tasting and pairings with local artisan and gourmet foods, including freshwater lobster (langostino).
Then comes Bodega Dos Buhos (Two Owls), where art and a unique and artistic wine selection merge into one of the most fun stops on the tour. Dos Buhos winery is located only 6-kms from San Miguel. Owner Diane Maycotte and her husband both come from an artistic background, so music, art, culture and creativity make “Dos Buhos” winery an obvious extension of their own lives. The art and architecture of the winery and the wine tasting room are authentic works of art featuring different local artists.
