MAHAHUAL, Q. Roo — A Piper Saratoga plane crashed in Mahahual with five persons aboard as it was attempting to take off Wednesday afternoon Jan. 25.
According to preliminary reports, all five people traveling on the aircraft were injured, although their exact injuries were not known.
Aboard the aircraft were the pilot and four more passengers, apparently foreign tourists. The plane bore the registration XB-OBB which was reportedly licensed from Aerocum company.
The aircraft took off at about 1:30 pm, but then reported problems and attempted a forced landing on rocky ground a few meters from the sea, near Costa Maya cruise pier, about a mile and a half from the center of Mahahual.
Army personnel came to the site to inspect the aircraft and gather information about the circumstances of the accident.
