PROGRESO — The commander of the IX Naval Zone of Yucalpetén, Rosendo Jesus Escalante Ilizaliturri, reported that three vessels of the Navy of Mexico have joined in an operation to search for two lost fishermen, who departed a few days ago from Sisal.

He said that these ships are engaged in the search for the seafarers, using all the resources that the Navy has, as they did in recent weeks, when they rescued four fishermen from Celestún, and another near Isla Pérez.

“The problem is that we do not have timely information to start the search. That is why we ask those who are engaged in maritime activity that when they know that fishermen do not return to port on time, immediately report it to us to carry out the operations,” he said.

The fishermen José Martín C.Ch. and Juan de la Cruz Ch. left the port of Sisal Thursday Jan. 5 and were supposed to return to shore on Saturday. Everything seems to indicate that they were surprised by the strong swells caused by the cold front number 21.
The pair went fishing on a 26-foot boat, owned by the Cooperativa Sociedad “Ribereños de Sisal”.

With regard to the current climatic conditions, Escalante Ilizaliturri recommended to the captains of boats and fishermen to take note of the instructions of the port captaincy, to take adequate equipment of life preservers and radiocommunications, to be in permanent contact with the maritime authorities and to be pending of the reports meteorological conditions.
