CHETUMAL, Q. Roo — This year, tourism will be consolidated, with the possibility of another low-cost airline connecting the southern part of Quintana Roo with the center of the country. The head of Tourism, Marisol Vanegas, also said that there is great expectation for the opening of the archaeological zone of Ichkabal in Bacalar.

Through its website, the airline Viva Aerobús announced the opening of new routes for this year, including the flight from Mexico City to Chetumal, three days a week, at a cost of 804 pesos, starting April 1.

The airline specifies that it is still subject to government approval; That is to say that the Secretariat of Communications and Transportation (SCT), still has not granted the permission.

This airline would join the service offered by Interjet and Volaris, also low-cost airlines, offering the route to Mexico City and vice versa, the first daily and the second three days a week. In addition, Mayan Air connects Chetumal with Cancun and Tropic Air with the country of Belize.

In this way, the market opens for tourists to visit the southern area of Quintana Roo.

The Secretary of Tourism, Marisol Vanegas, said that “it is fantastic, it is good news for us” and added that now the tourism sector should do the same and make known among the community that there are permanent lines connecting with the southern area of the state. She admitted that there has been insufficient promotion to publicize the diversity of products offered by this part of the entity.

“We have needed companies to make it known, there is a lot of market and product,” she emphasized.

She added that one of the contributions of the coming months to the south is the opening of the archaeological center of Ichkabal, whose delivery, by the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH), will be at the end of March for its opening in early June.

“The detonator is the Bacalar-Ichkabal node and the archaeological corridor is the physical cross with which it is being generated, the airport will be the distributor and Majahual will also be one of the important products,” she concluded.
