Having served as the network’s top exec since April 1997, Jean is credited with transforming the broadcaster and pay television provider into a diversified and integrated media, cable, satellite and television services company. Under his leadership, Grupo Televisa distributes its content through broadcast channels in Mexico, in more than 50 countries and 26 pay TV brands, networks, over-the-top services and cable operators.

“Emilio Azcárraga Jean is a strategic and visionary leader who has successfully and relentlessly navigated an increasingly competitive media landscape to grow his company’s businesses,” Bruce L. Paisner, president and CEO of the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, said Wednesday in a statement.

In the U.S., Televisa’s audiovisual content is distributed through Univision Communications, the leading media company serving the Hispanic market. In a statement, Jean called for a continued partnership between the U.S. and Mexico.

“Television dissolved the borders between the U.S. and Mexico a long time ago,” he said. “Technology has allowed us to connect, to share our values and to get to know each other better as friends, partners and neighbors. Our countries are more than public policies that come and go – history brings us together and geography unites us. This recognition is proof that if we continue working to grow together, we can develop a promising shared future.”
