MERIDA – According to Notimex, the export maquiladora industry of Yucatan has managed to maintain its workforce at about 25 thousand direct jobs so far this year, and the sector begins to resume its growth pace after the uncertainty that was generated by the change of government in the United States.
In an interview, Luis Felipe López Alonso, president of the Yucatan Export Maquila Association (Index Yucatan), explained that despite the uncertainty generated at the beginning of the year in the United States market, the manufacturing sector of the export market remained firm and began to stabilize.
“The activity has gradually resumed the growth conditions that have been generating in recent years, especially in the state of Yucatan and proof of this is that we have managed to keep strong our offer of jobs and the occupation of labor”, he stressed.
He said that in Yucatan there are 28 companies that are affiliated with the group, through which 25 thousand direct jobs are generated in various urban communities and in the interior of the state, as well as generating thousands of indirect jobs.
So that there is optimism in the sector and in that framework, Yucatan will have the opportunity to demonstrate all its economic potential and development that it offers both national and foreign investors, as it will host, next October, the 44th Index National Convention, he highlighted
“The importance of the event is that more than 500 people will participate, among national and foreign guests, and many of them are decision makers to make new investments in the country, so it will be a great time to present the competitive advantages offered in the region,” said the director.
He reported that the 44th Index National Convention will be held from October 11 to 13 this year and recalled that Index represents more than 80 per cent of the workforce in the national export industry and has more than 1,200 companies affiliated with different sectors.
These sectors include electrical-electronic, automotive, auto parts, metal-mechanics, plastic-rubber, medical, packaging-aerospace, aerospace, information technologies, communications, chemicals, steel, household appliances, textiles, agroindustry and food, among others.
“That is why the fact that an event of such magnitude takes place in the entity represents an opportunity to further consolidate export manufacturing and to continue to grow steadily in the coming months,” he said.
