CANCUN — The municipal government currently is working on turning this tourist destination into an important technology hub in Latin America, launching the new brand “Cancun Tech City” that will have the support of international companies such as AT&T and Karims Company.

Carlos Orvañanos Rea, head of the State’s Institute of Investment and financing, explained: “Although the state’s economy depends 95% on tourism, the communications and technology (IT) industry is growing potentially in Quintana Roo. In that sense, we are looking to diversify this sector through the launching of the brand “Cancun Tech City” in all of México by the end of 2017”.

“The brand was already released in the United States a few weeks ago, where we explained that Cancun Tech City consists on the creation of a technological ecosystem, in which we are making a call to different universities in order to attract new talent, generate a social impact, and promote this destination not only a tourism destination but also as a tech hub, with state government and technology companies going hand in hand “, said Orvañanos Rea.
