The Merida English Library board of directors sent the following message on Thursday Aug. 17….
“We are writing because some of our friends need your help.
Dan Conner, husband of Lewie Conner (pictured above), was hospitalized last week in CMA (Centro Medico de las Americas) and spent several days in the ICU before being moved to a regular room. He appears to be on the mend, but he’s not out of the woods yet and their hospital bill continues to grow.
Lewie and Dan are long-time members of the library and have donated countless hours of their time to MEL and to the community. Lewie has served as a board member for many years and is an integral part of the House and Garden Tour Committee and the Wine Tasting committee, not to mention the hours she put into the Chili Cook-Off and so many other events.
Dan and Lewie’s contribution to the health and well-being of the library is invaluable, and in their time of need we are asking our community to give back.
To make a donation to their hospital fund:
1) Drop off your cash donation at Merida English Library anytime during regular business hours
2) Make a donation via PayPal: Cathy Harrison is accepting donations on behalf of Lewie and Dan. Send money to Cathy’s account using her email [email protected]
The beautiful community in Merida is one of the reasons we all love to live here. Let’s come together to help our friends. Thank you so much!”

A better article might be to encourage people who move to another country to make plans for their health care before they require someone to collect money for them.
