Thieves seem to target front plates in cases registered in Merida and Peto…

MERIDA — Several people have reported in social networks that they have been victims of the removal of license plates from their vehicles, and in this respect, they commented that the front plate was stolen, but the back plate was never touched.

In the first case, Alejandro Gomez, a worker for a vehicle lubricants company, commented that when he arrived at the intersection of Peto-Chetumal highway, policemen made the observation that he did not have the plate, so he immediately reported it to his offices so that they make the corresponding procedures for the replacement.

Another case is a Facebook user who in her social network asked her followers and friends if they saw a license tag that they immediately report to her, because she also suspects that she has been the victim of theft. The third case is Miguel López, who this past weekend left his car in Merida’s Centro near Calles 62 x 75 to do some errands.

He didn’t notice till the next day, so he had to go to the Office of the Public Prosecutor to file a report of the theft and there they told him that they would initiate an investigation for the case of the theft of his plate.

An important issue to consider is that if the stolen plates are not from Yucatan the procedure is more difficult because it is necessary to make the corresponding changes of owner, the vehicle registration data and of course the plates.
