900 properties in Yucatan are rented on this platform, representing 35% of the accommodation spaces on offer….
MERIDA – “The regulation of the electronic lodging platform Airbnb is urgent, at this moment 35% of the accommodation spaces in Mérida and the municipalities of the coast are reserved through this digital tool,” stated the Mexican Hotel Association of Yucatan (AMHY).
The president of the AMHY, Héctor Navarrete Medina, pointed out that the sales growth figures of this platform impact the sector of Yucatecan hoteliers, since currently between 5% and 6% of the hotel occupancy of the state is done through this App.
In a review of the Airbnb site, it was highlighted that in the last three years, the lodging space rental platform has grown dynamically, and at the moment about 900 properties in Yucatan work through this US company, which really concerns Yucatecan hoteliers.
The hotel sector leader said that the 35% of the accommodation spaces in Mérida and the coastal municipalities are reserved through this platform and that it is necessary to regulate it.
“Mexico is already the fifth largest country in the world for reservations through this cybernetic platform, and this forces the federal government to intervene to establish a registry and mechanisms of fiscal responsibility for the owners of these hosting spaces,” he said.

Hello,
I am going to be in Chelem for several weeks including over Christmas and New Year’s. Can you please suggest where I could locate a list of restaurants in Merida that are open? We are looking for restaurants that are not at big hotels. Thank you.
Pamela
