Beaches, cenotes, archaeological zones and haciendas are among the most sought-after locations for photos and videos….
MERIDA — Yucatan is a “quoted” scene for the creation of videos, films and photographs for social and promotional events. Beaches, cenotes, haciendas, archeological zones and the emblematic Paseo de Montejo are among sites with the highest demand.
State Tourism Secretary Saúl Ancona Salazar said that on average each month six different events are held in the state, and each is an opportunity for promotion.
Among the most demanded sites are the port of Progreso, the cenotes Dzitnup and Zací in Valladolid, as well as its streets, in particular the avenue of Los Frailes; in Merida, Paseo de Montejo and other preserved streets such as Calle 59, Parque de la Mejorada, where is located the House of Legal Culture; the Haciendas San Diego Cutz and Tekik de Regil, and mangrove areas like Las Coloradas and Rio Lagartos, as well as Celestun and the nesting site of the flamingos.
Those are the most demanded places for taking pictures and filming, but there are many others who shoot without warning or do not achieve their objective, because they lack the permissions required by the activity.
The Public Relations area of SEFOTUR directed by Carlos Baqueiro along with three more people are in charge of attending those who come to the state for this type of activities.
The State Government provides the facilities according to the means, which allows promotion of the destination and is supported by transportation and lodging. Others only ask for logistical help, for example to make a catalog of brides in Mérida, in Calle 59 between 54 and 52, it was necessary to close the streets for a few hours, then the Sefotur in coordination with the Municipal Police were able to grant the permission and control the traffic around the closed zone.
According to the task, SEFOTUR supports them with the process of permits for the closure of roads and security issues, working along the state or municipal police. “It is more a matter of management and public relations, and if we treat well those who ask for support, they will give more credit to the State; some people come and we do not even know about it,” he concluded.
