MERIDA — More than 800 people participated in the “Ninth Tour of Houses of Merida’s Historical Center”, organized by the BAI Foundation. Participants were able to observe and admire different architectural and decoration styles made by Mexican and foreign design professionals.
The event, in addition to public service, seeks to be a benchmark for students of architecture and interior design, in the “theoretical-practical” area, in order that they are the ones who remodel and decorate these mansions in the future, since 80% of the professionals who carried out the work come from other parts of the world, said Carlos Cabrera May, organizer of the event.
“We manage a special price for students, because the tour has become a reference for university careers.”
This year there were a total of seven residences to appreciate; in most of them the owners explained the designs and the reasons that led them to request that decorations.
“Many owners made the remodeling works themselves, others hired foreign people, however the event also featured local and Mexican art, since the common denominator of the owners is the love they have for Mexico and their desire to exalt the wealth of the country, through its interior designs “.
In addition to the Mexican style, the homes were influenced by art from India and Morocco, while the furniture was mostly specially made for the owners.
