“Cochinita Power”, located on Altamirano #19, Colonia San Rafael in Mexico City, offers the customer the feeling of being in Yucatan through the traditional Yucatecan food and its own touch of contemporary mixed flavors.
Livia Arroyo for Plate Selector, described the place as an excellent alternative in the markets where people can eat delicious, comfortably, and at a very affordable price in a clean and nice place.
The restaurant attracts a very diverse public that likes cochinita: pork marinated in achiote cooked in charcoal for at least 10 hours. The result is a delicious meat that melts in the customers’ mouth, that is accompanied by onions with sour orange and habanero pepper.
Two proposals that break with their classic recipe and surprise very favorably are the hamburger and the chilaquiles.
The gringa, a flour tortilla with cheese, is more than a delicious snack. The panuchos cannot be missed in the menu for those who want to make a totally Yucatecan dive. And for those who don’t settle for a “taco”… the jumbo sandwich is the perfect option. To close the trip to Yucatan, nothing better than a good plate of baked banana with cream.
Definitely, it is worth visiting the popular and increasingly fashionable Colonia San Rafael to get to know this unique modern restaurant that serves the cochinita pibil not the traditional Yucatecan way, but in different modalities.
If you visit the Cochinita Power Facebook site you will see that many Yucatecan people do not feel entirely happy with this particular concept of cochinita pibil, which is totally different from the traditional way to eat Yucatecan regional food.
