CANCUN, Quintana Roo.- Benito Juárez was recongnized as the municipality with the highest number of housing sales in all of Mexico during 2017, according to a housing study developed by Realty World Mexico.

However, despite continuing in the first place, the sales volume decreased in 10.4%, compared to 2016.

“According to data from the National Housing Commission (Conavi), in the January-December 2017 period, the sale of housing in the municipality of Benito Juárez reported a total of 15,445 houses; in the second place came the municipality of Tlajomulco de Zúñiga, in Jalisco, with the sale of housing of 15,195 houses, “said Jorge Paredes Guerra, President of Realty World Mexico.

Paredes stated that Cancun is still an attractive place of residence for families all over Mexico and other countries, for many reasons.

The municipality of Mérida, Yucatán came in fifth place with a total of  9, 341 properties sold during the year.

The municipality of Solidaridad, Quintana Roo (where Playa del Carmen is located) reported 7, 711 units sold during 2017, occupying the eighth place.

Paredes Guerra said that the geratest number of housing transactions took place in tourist areas.

“The municipalities of the country with the largest number of new houses are located in tourist areas; the Bajío region in Central Mexico, and northern areas of the country linked to the industrial corridors,” he said.

He considered that this year is expected to maintain good figures in the number of Real Estate operations.

“For 2018 we hope that if interest rates are maintained we can reach the same levels of sales in new and used housing units as in 2017. However, the electoral process in our country that ends on July 1, as well as the renegotiation of the Free Trade Agreement, may influence the Real Estate sector” he said.

In the report by state, Nuevo León and Jalisco had the first two places, leaving Quintana Roo with the third position.
