Uriel Omar Sosa Sánchez, an eighth-semester student at the School of Chemical Engineering of the Autonomous University of Yucatan (UADY), will participate with the “Arine” project from March 7 to 9 at the Casa México SXSW Competition in Austin, Texas. Uriel Omar is almost ready to graduate as a Industrial Logistics Engineer.
This initiative emereged as a school project, and today it is a take-off business that is distributed locally and will expand its coverage to national level.
In an interview, the UADY student said that he heads the team along with two of his collaborators Eduardo Villanueva and Oscar Rodríguez.
Currently, their main product is a green banana flour, mostly used for desserts, it is also utilized to make pasta, and as breading for meat and other foods. According to the studies carried out for its production, this ingredient has highly beneficial nutrition properties and is 100% gluten free.
“The project is called Arine, and it is a nutritional alternative for people with diabetes, obesity or other gastrointestinal diseases. The objective we have as a company is to create a functional healthy food product line, manufactured in a sustainable way, causing no harm to the environment in the State of Yucatan,” Sosa Sánchez said.
Arine can be described as a fine beige powder, floury textured, obtained from fruits and vegetables through a grinding process. Its uses range from cooking flour, preparation of beverages and other nutritious products. It is easy to produce and its price is lower compared to other brands.

As for the Casa México SXSW entrepreneurship contest, participants will have the opportunity to receive individual mentoring from experts and potential investors to help them improve their business project.
Casa México SXSW is an initiative launched by the Mexican government in 2016 with the mission of generating an effective platform for Mexican entrepreneurs to take advantage of the opportunities offered at the SXSW Festival.
