Bunge North America has inaugurated a new wheat milling facility located in Yucatán, Mexico, which will enhance the company’s ability to serve its clients in Southeast Mexico.

As the mill is located 20km outside of Puerto Progresso, Bunge claims that wheat can be efficiently delivered from the port to be processed, while the flour produced at the facility can be easily exported to other Latin American markets.

Flour produced at the site will also be sold in bulk and in bags to both large food companies and small bakeries throughout Yucatán, Campeche, Quintana Roo, Chiapas and Tabasco.

Bunge says that the ‘state-of-the-art’ technology and equipment at the facility will improve yields, ensure product quality and reduce energy consumption in the production process.

Daniel Maldonado, managing director, Mexico at Bunge said: “This expansion of our footprint ensures that Bunge can continue to meet the needs of our customers with a reliable supply chain and the ability to produce high-quality ingredients at a competitive cost.

“The location and design of this mill allow us to create a world-class operation with a strong local presence.”

Jennifer Uribe, commercial director at Bunge added: “Through our network of wheat mills in Mexico, Bunge has built a reputation for providing high-quality products at competitive prices.

“We look forward to providing bakers and families in this region a high level of service and flours that produce breads that are richer, softer and fluffier – the trademarks of our brands, including Espiga, Escudo Plus and Villa Rica.”
