The operation of online transport platforms, such as UBER, will be official in the city of Cancun, by mid-September as Decree 213, which issues the Mobility Law for the state of Quintana Roo, was published on June 14 in in the 80th edition the Official Federation Gazette.
According to the transitory, the decree will come into force 90 days after approval, which will be September 12 of this year.
The Mobility Law replaces the Transportation Law, and brings significant changes by creating a Mobility Institute that, among other faculties, will deliver new concessions according to their needs and based on the operators’ priority lists.
UBER announced that the government of the state, published the issuance of this Mobility Law, in the official federation gazette .
UBER stated that although this regulation contains restrictions on the collaborative economy, a call is made to the authorities of the state of Quintana Roo, so that they do not back down and defend the rights that this Law recognizes.
Likewise, Uber reiterated its commitment to continue working in favor of mobility and economic development of Quintana Roo “through the creation of self-employment economic opportunities and safe, efficient and accessible mobility options for all”.
Rubén Aguilar Gómez, General Secretary of Quintana Roo’s taxi drivers’ union (FUTV), said that the official publication of the Mobility Law is part of a normal legal process, since to be able to make the necessary reforms, it is also necessary to have legal existence as such.
“You can not reform a law that is not published” he added.
The leader added that there is an agreement between Quintana Roo’s Government and the 17 Taxi Drivers Unions across the state.
“We have confidence in the executive and his word with the taxi drivers of Quintana Roo,” Aguilar Gómez concluded.
