“During this summer holiday season it is expected that 800,000 people visit the tourist attractions in Yucatan, including the most popular, such as Chichen Itza, Ek Balam, Dzitnup, El Corchito and Dzibichaltún.
The authorities of the Patrur Cultur are prepared for the volume of people that will attend these archaeological sites, colonial buildings, cenotes and natural areas.
Prior to the longest holiday season of the year repairs and improvements were made in some of these points, to provide a better service to tourists and visitors, mainly nationals who arrive to Mérida from other parts of the country.
The archeological zone of Chichen Itzá continues to be the place with the highest arrival of tourists, in this summer season it will surpass 470 thousand visitors. Also the archaeological ruins of Ek Balam and the cenote of Dzitnup, in Valladolid are points of great affluence for tourists.
Also, the ecological parks of “El Corchito”, in Puerto Progreso, Celestún and Ría Lagartos grow in demand, which has allowed to expand these “paradores turísticos“with parking lots, services and personnel in attention to the number of visitors.
In that sense, Dzibichaltún and Uxmal increased in the flow of national and international tourists who come to these historic sites. According to figures of the Patrur Cultur in 2017, these points of interest exceeded 120,000 visitors, which marks an important growth for both.
As reported by the Patrur Cultur, in 2016, the number of visitors to the main 14 tourist attractions was 666,000 people, for 2017 the figure was higher than 800,000 tourists and this year, authorities expect to break that record.
On this subject, Dafne López Martínez, head of the agency reported that during the summer vacation of 2017, Chichén Itzá received 470,592 people; Uxmal, 55,860; Ek Balam, 35,498; the Zací Artisan Market, 32,995; El Corchito, 35,498 and Dzibilchaltún, 25, 103.
“With the remodeling of the infrastructure of the 12 tourist resorts, in which more than 42 million pesos were invested, local and foreign travelers enjoyed more comfortable, modern facilities with higher quality services, which made their visit a unique experience” he said.
He also stressed that these positive results are also due to the permanent promotion of the sites through the “Rediscover Yucatan” campaign implemented by SEFOTUR.
López Martínez concluded that the state offers tourists a wide range of options to enjoy the nature reserves, archaeological zones, magical towns, beaches, cenotes, gastronomy and culture.
