A fire caused by a short circuit on a restaurant sign inside Terminal 3 of the Cancun International Airport caused the suspension of flights in that terminal for 40 minutes and although no injuries were reported, 5 passengers received attention due to nervous breakdown.
According to a press release issued by Aeropuertos del Sureste (Asur) the fire occurred at 10:20 in the morning on Sunday July 8, in the food court of Cancun Airport’s Terminal 3, where international flights arrive ad depart.
Agents of the Rescue and Firefighting Corps (C.R.E.I.) of the airport controlled the fire along with other employees who immediately used extinguishers.
Due to the generated smoke, that area of the terminal was partially evacuated and the operations at Terminal 3 were suspended for 40 minutes.
The statement indicates that at no time was the life of any passenger or collaborator of the airport at risk, nevertheless it states that the medical service attended 5 passengers with nervous breakdowns and one who tripped and fell, without any serious consequences.
The maintenance and security team of the airport carried out cleaning tasks to restore things to normal at terminal 3 of the Cancun International Airport.
In shared images on social networks it can be seen that the entire waiting room for international flights was invaded by a dense cloud of smoke.
