The count of votes in the state of Yucatan could not be consulted online for several hours during Monday July 2, because the PREP Yucatán website was down.
“In Yucatan, the PREP website did not work properly due to a hacking attempt of the system”, announced the Social Communication Department of the Electoral Institute and Citizen Participation of the State of Yucatan (Instituto Electoral y de Participación Ciudadana de Yucatán: IEPAC).
El Diario de Yucatán repored that in an update at 6:00 AM on Monday July 2, prior to the PREP system crash, and with 42% of the count recorded, PAN candidate, Mauricio Vila, registered 31.6% , while Mauricio Sahuí from the PRI registered 28% of the votes counted.
The electoral counselors of the state had a meeting to address the system problems. They reviewed a report delivered by the company Proyectos Integrales de Redes Voz y Datos, S.A. of C.V, explaining what kind of hacking attempt took place, and at 2:00 pm on Monday the system still did not operate correctly.
Later on Monday, the Program of Preliminary Electoral Results (PREP) of Yucatán closed with just over 80 percent of the total vote count with a trend of 39.23 percent in favor of the PAN candidate Mauricio Vila Dosal.
Looking at the PREP Yucatán website on Tuesday July 3rd, the results are the same, and the counter still says that only 80% of the votes have been counted in the state.
