The Tourist Business Council of Yucatan (Consejo Empresarial Turístico de Yucatán: Cetur) announced that it will be through the local gastronomy that the tourist promotion of the state will be strengthened, for which they are already preparing an encounter of chefs from all over the Peninsula.
Jaime Solís Garza, president of Cetur, pointed out that using local gastronomy and mixing it with other segments, such as weddings, art, culture and conventions, will increase the number of visitors to Mérida, and the rest of the state.
In an interview, the head of Cetur said that integrating a series of gastronomic activities across the state, will allow the exploitation of this important tourism segment and this will boost the promotion of Mérida as world-class travel destination.
Solís Garza explained that the goal of launching a series of projects promoting Yucatecan cuisine as the main features, is to make tourists stay more than one night in Mérida, and elsewhere in the state of Yucatan.
“We are going to spread the word, and tell people around the world to come and enjoy our fantastic regional food, which is very broad and above all, very rich in flavors, aromas, textures and colors, so we can base part of our tourism industry on the vast Yucatecan cuisne” he concluded.
