In the shipyard number 20 based in Salina Cruz, Oaxaca, the launching of the Oceanic Patrol ‘Jalisco PO-167’ was carried out.
The ship’s mission is to carry out patrol and surveillance operations in the exclusive economic zone to maintain the rule of law in the sea; in addition to conducting search and rescue operations to safeguard human life, as well as actions to support the civilian population, which guarantees the security of people in case of a natural disaster situation.
Through a statement, the Secretariat of Navy-Marine of Mexico reported that the launching ceremony was carried out according to the Ship Substitution Program of the Mexican Navy, which was held last May and was presided over by the Admiral Vidal Francisco Soberón Sanz, Secretary of the Navy and High Command of the Mexican Navy, accompanied by Mrs. Georgina Ventura Menchaca de Soberón, as well as Alejandro Murat Hinojosa, governor of the state of Oaxaca and the holders of the legislative and judicial powers of the entity, among other naval, civil and military authorities.
During the event, the Secretary of the Navy stated that “in the naval sense, the Oceanic Patrol ‘Jalisco PO-167’ will allow the Mexican Navy to operate both in territorial waters, and in the exclusive economic zone of our country . ”
The Secretary of the Navy explained that it is a surface unit capable of developing operations under the trinomial concept, since it extends its maritime surveillance radius, it can hold a helicopter and a high-speed interceptor craft on its decks, which as a whole allow to reduce operating costs and increase their level of response and effectiveness.
In addition, the High Command stressed that in addition to the missions aimed at preserving the rule of law at sea, this vessel will also be able to join institutional efforts, in order to support the civilian population in cases of emergency, or to carry out operations of search and rescue.
In this sense, the Oceanic Patrol ‘Jalisco PO-167’ is a symbol of Mexican Nationalism, naval power and national strength.
