In order to promote breastfeeding and its importance for health among working mothers and students, the Scientific Research Center of Yucatán (CICY) inaugurated its own Lactarium, a space in which the mothers of the CICY Community will be able to extract comfortably and safely their breast milk and conserve it for the later feeding of children.
At the inauguration, the director of the Center, Dra. Beatriz Xoconostle Cázares, highlighted the importance of the lactarios in the work centers, since they provide a favorable environment for working mothers to feed their children with breast milk. She also highlighted the efforts made by the CICY on gender equity and labor equality: “I am pleased to know that today we inaugurate the second Lactarium in all of Yucatan, a sign that the CICY is in favor of labor equality and recognition of the women’s work and their role as mothers. ”
During the ceremony, the positive impact of breastfeeding on the health of babies was also mentioned. Mother’s milk protects them from respiratory infections, diarrhea, and even death, since through the milk, the mother transmits her defenses during a vital moment in the development of the infant, protecting him/her against future diseases such as asthma, allergies, diabetes, overweight, obesity, atopic dermatitis, leukemia and cardiovascular diseases, in addition to promoting his/her growth and proper development.
Likewise, it was stated that with the inauguration of this space, the CICY joins the initiative of various national and international institutions to create favorable environments that promote breastfeeding.
“The Scientific Research Center of Yucatan, AC (CICY) is pleased to promote lactation national and international programs and projects, so that jointly, as a society, we can achieve the objectives set and strengthen the bond between the mother and child “, concluded the director of the CICY, public center of the Conacyt System.

Beatriz Xoconostle Cázares, was accompanied by the subdelegate of the Secretariat of Labor and Social Welfare, Lorenzo Aguilar Lara, as well as engineer Jenny Montoya Barajas, and Martín Becerra Jiménez, head of the Unit in Yucatán, both of the National Association for Standardization and Certification, AC
