Institute for Equality between Men and Women inaugurated in Mérida

With the aim of providing psychological care and a space for reflection for every man who exercises violence or discrimination against women, the Institute for Equality between Men and Women, (Instituto Para la Igualdad entre Hombres y Mujeres) opened this Friday August 10 a specialized center in Mérida, Yucatán.

The announcement was made by the Secretary of the Interior (Secretaría de Gobernación: Segob). The Center is located on Calle 41 # 438,(between 30 and 32), fraccionamiento Juan Pablo II, in the west side of Mérida.

The objective of this center is the eradication of violence against women through psychological counseling – with an average of 15 sessions per day – specialists will detect specific needs of each patient, in order to stop any kind of aggressive practice towards women.

There will also be reflection groups, created for men who exercise violence towards their partner, in which they will share their experience with this situation and will be provided with the necessary tools and strategies for analysis, establish methods and techniques to prevent these type of conducts, and finally put a stop to their violent behavior.
