The new Consul General of the United States in the Yucatan Peninsula, Courtney Beale, was offficially introduced before state authorities of Quintana Roo, on Tuesday, July 31, in a private meeting at the official residence of the State Government, in the hotel zone of Cancun .
In a statement, it was announced that the official presentation and welcome to the US diplomat was headed by the governor of Quintana Roo, Carlos Joaquin Gonzalez, and that during the meeting, the governor expressed his interest in strengthening the tourism activity.
Joaquín González said he was interested in the promotion of Quintana Roo in traditional markets in the United States that had been neglected, such as California, Texas, Colorado, Georgia.
In turn, the new Consul Courtney Beale, highlighted the interest and importance that Quintana Roo has for American tourism, for which she expressed her desire to maintain a close relationship with Quintana Roo’s government.
She offered to collaborate in the care of vulnerable areas through social development programs that the US government could promote, including cooperation and infrastructure plans for the state of Quintana Roo.
The new Consul also said that American businessmen have felt the willingness of the state government for the security of their investments and tourists.
Governor Carlos Joaquín, recognized the importance of the North American tourism market for the region, and expressed his willingness to maintain close communication to promote investment that could generate more employment for Quintana Roo.
In addition, he explained the actions for the protection of tourists and locals through the “Quintana Roo Prevention Model” that was recently presented.
The meeting was attended by Francisco López Mena, Secretary of Government; Darío Flota Ocampo, General Director of the Tourist Promotion Council of Quintana Roo and the head of the State Secretariat of Tourism.
