The 57th. International Congress of the Mexican Society of Nutrition and Endocrinology (Sociedad Mexicna de Nutrición y Endocrinología: SMNE) will be held in the “White City”, from November 27 to December 1, with the assistance of more than 1,500 specialists of the sector, that are expected to leave an economic spill of more than 15 million pesos in four days.

In a visit to Yucatan, as part of the process of organizing the event, the president of the SMNE, Alejandro Romero Zazueta, indicated that the new International Congress Center (CIC) and the complementary services it offers, in addition to the environment -security, hotel capacity, services and tourist offer-, make the state the ideal place for academic and cultural meetings and conventions.

“Yucatan is a mystical land that always attracts attention for being the cradle of the Maya civilization; example of culture, humanism and science. But it offers, above all, an atmosphere of tranquility, it is one of the safest cities in the country and security is the first point that convention organizers consider, before evaluating any other aspect, security is of vital importance” said Romero Zazueta.

“The last time this Congress was held in the state was in 2014 and generally this type of meetings do not repeat headquarters for at least eight years. However, being a territory that fulfills everything necessary for an event of such magnitude, the organizing team decided that, only four years later, the Congress should be carried out again in this venue”, he remarked.

“This state and its capital have evolved very rapidly and are growing at great speed, we see it with real estate developments, modifications in the city center and there is also a lot more businesses and service providers around the International Convention Center, but what we like the best is the people of Yucatán who are very friendly” he continued.

The president of the SMNE added that this convention includes a cultural program for the attendants to enjoy the Maya ball game demonstration, folkloric dance show; a visit to the new Palacio de la Música, where they will be able to enjoy typical Yucatecan music such as Trova, and the melodies of different loca composers, such as singer-songwriter Sergio Esquivel, as well as guided tours to archaeological sites such as Uxmal and Chichen Itza.

The meeting will be attended by specialists in general medicine, nutrition and endocrinology, as well as internists and professionals from related areas, who will be focused on discussing various issues, including those that matter to public health such as diabetes and obesity.

“This will be a great opportunity to update and train in endocrinology topics such as diabetes, thyroid diseases, obesity, kidney and growth disorders, pituitary gland, lipid problems, arteriosclerosis, cholesterol, pediatric endocrinology and gynecological reproduction, through symposia, panel tables, lectures, conferences and workshops”, Romero Zazueta stated.

For its part, the director of Kgroup, event organizer, Kitzia Morales Torres, said that at the moment they have more than 700 rooms reserved for this international convention, which means around 80% of the established goal.

“These conventions not only benefit the CIC, but also service providers because social activities are programmed in different restaurants. It is expected that an expense of $ 10,200 per participant will be generated, including lodging, food and shopping. For a total economic spill that could exceed $15 million pesos”, she said.

The CIC recently hosted the 28th International Congress of Periodontology AMP 2018, which took place from August 29 to September 1, with the participation of one thousand dentists specialized in the field of Periodontology from across the country and generated an economic impact of more than 14 million pesos.

During the four days of the meeting, the attendees had keynote addresses with leaders in the field such as Oscar González, Tory Berglungh, distinguished professor at the Institute of Dentistry of the Sahlgrenska Academy of the University of Gothenburg Sweden. Adrián Guerrero, Mariano Sanz, Antonio Linares, Miguel Padilla Rosas and the vice president of the Spanish Society of Periodontics and Osseointegration (SEPA), Antonio Bujaldón, which meant a high level of training.

Those who attended the forums stayed at hotels such as the Hyatt, Fiesta Americana, Presidente Intercontinental, Holiday Inn and Wyndham, located in the so-called Convention District of Mérida, near Paseo de Montejo and the Historic Center, which allowed the attendees to enjoy the tourist attractions of the city, boosting the local economy with their shopping, dinning and entertaining.
