For their contributions to the plastic arts and social development, Gerda Gruber Jez and María Margarita de Fátima Molina Zaldívar, respectively, will receive the Yucatan Medal 2018, a distinction granted by the state government, through the Ministry of Culture and the Arts (Secullar).
This was announced by the adjudicating jury, composed of María Teresa Mézquita Méndez, as president, Roberto Abraham Mafud and Alonso Elías Gutiérrez Espinoza, who decided to deliver two medals for equal circumstances.
According to the jury, of the 13 proposals examined, Gerda Grube stood out for her prolonged individual artistic career and as a re-evaluator of the ceramics technique in Mexico.
She is also acknowledged as a professor at the Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) and her contributions at the Higher School of Arts of Yucatán (ESAY).
It is worth mentioning the foundation that bears her name and that serves as a space for exploration and experimentation in sculpture, which also offers professional training that has resulted in new generations of local artists.
Regarding María Molina, she is widely known for her altruistic work sustained for more than three decades, from volunteering to the leadership of associations, among which prevails the General Hospital of Mexico and Save the Children, of which she is founder of the Regional Council for Yucatan.
In addition, for four years she has presided over and promoted the tasks of the Board of Trustees of the Yucatan Symphony Orchestra, a fundamental group for the music and culture of our society.
The award will be delivered on November 20, according to a press release.
