The garbage accumulated in the Yucatan cenotes is still a problem of pollution mainly caused by humans, so, in order to fix the problem dozens of volunteers from private companies and environmentalists participated in a cleaning work where 400 kilos of garbage including bottles, cans, plastic containers, shoes, glass and other kind of objects were extracted from the Pixton cenote in the community of .

Volunteers from different companies, municipal workers, together with the Grosjean Expedition group were responsible for cleaning and removing the waste from the site.

Sergio Grosjean Abimerhi, coordinator of the operation, commented that this is the second time that they have carried out this type of work in this cenote, hoping that it will be the last time.

It is time for people to become aware of the damage we do to the planet by throwing garbage anywhere, “Grosjean Abimerhi said.

In the cenotes all kinds of garbage have been found, from baby diapers to dangerous things like large pieces of glass and syringes.

“Over 2 thousand cenotes are registered in the state, although not all are suitable to visit”, stated Sergio Grosjean.

It is not possible for people not to become aware of the damage we are causing to our planet by leaving the garbage anywhere and throwing it into the cenotes” said one of the young volunteers.

The Grosjean Expedition group has carried out cleaning tasks in different cenotes of the state in a consecutive manner. They are also credited with the discovery a few months ago of cave paintings in a Yucatan cavern that are unique due to their technique.
