Campeche will host the World Tennis Cup

“San Francisco de Campeche will host the World Tennis Cup, at the Campeche Country Club from November 12 to 17, which will bring together 256 tennis players from 65 countries,” announced Jorge Carlos Hurtado Montero, general director of the Instituto del Deporte of Campeche (Indecam).

The official was accompanied by the Secretary of Tourism, Jorge Manos Esparragoza; the president of the Mexican Tennis Federation, José Flores Fernández; and the president of the Campeche Tennis Association, Carlos Illescas Ávila.

Hurtado Montero explained that this event is endorsed by the International Tennis Federation, so that Campeche will welcome some of the best tennis players in the world, and the State will be able to benefit from the economic impact represented by the sports tourism segment.

The head of the Instituto del Deporte of Campeche (Indecam) congratulated the State Association for the effort made in order to have Campeche taken into consideration for this important world-class sports event, and reiterated that the State Government will maintain the support for greater impulse of Tennis in Campeche.

Flores Fernandez added that this tournament delivers 280 international ranking points to the first place, which is a great opportunity for players under 18 years to raise their level, and go for the majors.

This competition is part of the State Program of Special Sports Events and will have the participation of the Mexican Marcelo Sepulveda, in addition to the number 11 of the World, the Romanian Filip Cristian Jianu.

In the same way, Manos Esparragoza assured that the state of Campeche expects an economic spill of approximately eight million pesos in the hotel and restaurant sectors, for which reason it has already held meetings with local businessmen, to provide the best possible service to visitors.

He emphasized the instruction of the Governor Alejandro Moreno Cárdenas, to support the private initiative to benefit with these type of events, in addition to promote Campeche as an important sports tourism venue.

Finally, Carlos Illescas, mentioned that Campeche is one of the few states in the country that is qualified and recognized by the International Tennis Association to host these world-class competitions and there will be two wild cards for Campechanos players who will participate in the Cup, one for the women’s and one for the men’s category. The two best-ranked in each category will be able to participate in the World Cup.
