The business sector in southern Quintana Roo is providing an economic income of approximately 6 million pesos for the development of the next edition of the Beach Volleyball World Tournament, in Chetumal.

Eloy Quintal Jiménez, president of the National Chamber of Commerce, Services and Tourism (Canaco-Servytur) Chetumal-Tulum, said that from the 24th to the 28th of this month, dates in which the event will take place in the state capital, it is expected a hotel occupancy of up to 60% in the 2,200 rooms registered in Chetumal and an economic benefit of approximately 1,500,000 pesos of daily circulation, during the four days of the tournament, between lodging, food and entertainment.

“This type of sporting events have an impact with immediate benefits for the international promotion of Chetumal as a sports tourism destination” he said.

“These type of sports tourism events, such as the open water diving competition that takes place in Bacalar, among others that have been developed in the south of the state are a valuable parameter, because athletes become tourist promoters depending on the treatment they receive”, Quintal Jimenez continued.

“It is very important that merchants and tourism service providers do their best,” he added.

Quintal Jiménez said that the State Government is making a big effort in the organization of the World Beach Volleyball Tour to be held in the state capital from 24 to 28 of October, with the participation of 40 teams of international level, from 20 different countries.

The Commission for Youth and Sports of Quintana Roo (Cojudeq), installed five sand beach courts on the Explanada de la Bandera, the main one will have stands with capacity for 2,300 spectators.

To host the 50 games of the last date of the international beach volleyball tour, the state pledged 8.5 million pesos.
