For the second consecutive year, expedia.mx includes a Yucatecan city in the category of the best qualified destinations to vacation in Mexico.

The Internet based travel agency, founded by Rich Barton in 1996 in Redmond, Washington, United States, has ranked Valladolid, one of the two Magic Towns of Yucatán, according to the ratings of verified user reviews that the company compiled from September 2017 to August 2018.

Izamal is the other Magical Town in the state, one of the 112 that the Ministry of Tourism has recognized, in order to revalue the Mexican communities that stand out in the collective imaginary of the nation.

The annual report of expedia.mx , which has an average income of more than 10 billion dollars per year, in its version 2018 incorporates Valladolid (aka”La Sultana del Oriente“) in the 24 cities with the highest rating of a ratio of 1,280 cities analyzed this year with scores that can reach a maximum of five stars.

The previous year, when expedia.mx made this measurement for the first time, Merida appeared as one of the 24 best holiday destinations in the Mexican territory.

Valladolid, founded on May 28, 1543 by Francisco de Montejo in the Mayan site of Chauac-Há, is located about 163 kilometers east of Mérida.

The city, characterized by its colonial architecture, has as main attractions the San Bernardino convent, the Calzada de los Frailes, the church of San Servacio, the cenote “Zací” and the Municipal Palace, originally built in the sixteenth century.

In the review of the survey made by the international travel company, it is underlined that Valladolid is a municipality that “offers magic and culture for tourists. It has the perfect combination between nature and Mayan culture. Highlighting “Casa de los Venados” and the cenote Dzitnup “.

Expedia describes the cenote Zací de Valladolid,as an underground oasis in the heart of Valladolid, a natural wonder just a few steps from the historic center of this Magic Town of Yucatan.

The requirements that the 24 cities must meet to be part of this select catalog include four main points, according to the observations and ratings given by the users of the travel web portal: cleanliness, comfort, friendliness of its inhabitants and general condition of the destination.

Tourism services, such as hotels and attractions options, are also taken into consideration.

In the 2018 expedia.mx clasification, Valladolid is on position 22nd, two other destinations of the Peninsula are listed: Puerto Morelos and the island of Holbox, both in Quintana Roo, in places 14 and 17, respectively. Last year’s publication also included two Quintana Roo communities, Playa del Carmen and Cancún, in the fifth and twentieth positions.

The cities that occupy the three places of honor among the best qualified destinations in 2018 to vacation in the country correspond to Guadalupe, Nuevo León; Tapalpa, Jalisco, and Coatzacoalcos, Veracruz.

In the previous year, the three first places went to Tuxtla Gutiérrez, Chiapas; Oaxaca, Oaxaca, and Cabo San Lucas, Baja California Sur.

In the 2017 and 2018 editions of the selection made by the users of this travel website, four Mexican cities repeated: Tuxtla Gutiérrez (first in 2017 and sixth now) and San Cristóbal de las Casas (seventh and tenth), both in Chiapas; Cabo San Lucas, Baja California Sur (third and fifth), and Villahermosa, Tabasco (fourth and twentieth, respectively). .
