The president of the Yucatan Association of Maquiladoras, Luis Felipe López Alonso informed that the industry is closing 2018 with more than 25,000 jobs; while they started the year with 21,000 jobs and 4,000 new ones were generated due to the expansion of several member companies manufacturing products that have great demand in the United States and Europe.
He said that without a doubt it has been a good year for the maquiladoras, the industry has been growing steadily for more than five years, no plants closed this year and some were opened, such as Leoni, which generated more jobs.
He pointed out that in 2019 there are several companies with foreign capital that want to open their maquiladora plants in Yucatan, three of the are confirmed, they just need to decide the exact geographic spot.
“The only thing they want in 2019 is to lower the electric power rates that impact the maquiladoras; a request that all the Yucatecan private initiative is asking for, a reduction on the power tariffs. All companies are relying on the new Federal Government, so the productivity of this industry does not decrease “, pointed out.
Finally, he specified that they will start 2019 with the continuity of the export of their merchandise to the United States and Europe, seeking greater growth for the more than 29 member companies.
