Governor Mauricio Vila Dosal and the head of the Ministry of Tourism (Sectur), Miguel Torruco Marqués, who made his first visit to the state after becoming Mexico’s Secretary of Tourism on December 1, inaugurated the new air route that connects the Tabasco capital to the “White City”, which contributes to the growth of the “Manuel Crescencio Rejón” international airport coverage.

Accompanied by the Secretary of Tourism Development, Michelle Fridman Hirsch, and the mayor of Mérida, Renán Barrera Concha, the head of the Executive stressed that the vision of his Government is to turn tourism into a job creation alternative for the whole state, He pointed out the importance of generating strategies to promote the attractions of the Yucatán, not only Mérida, and to allow visitors to visit to make a longer stay in the territory.

Also, before the director of Regional Airports of the South (ASUR), Héctor Navarrete Muñoz, and the director of the airline, Juan Carlos Zuazua Cosío, the Governor indicated that he has instructed the owner of Sefotur to include in the budget next year an amount for advertising and promoting the new routes and the attractions of the state.

Torruco Márquez, invited Vila Dosal to promote Yucatán within the Chinese market, which has high purchasing power and great interest in the country’s culture.

After the cutting of the inaugural ribbon of this new flight and the welcome of the first 164 passengers, the holder of the Executive power reiterated that Yucatan needs to be promoted at national and international level.

He also expressed that his administration endorses the initiatives promoted by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, so that Yucatan will be very active in promoting projects related to tourism, such as the Maya Train.

The Mérida-Villahermosa flight has two weekly frequencies, on Mondays and Fridays, as well as rates ranging from 400 pesos. The journey lasts 35 minutes and offers a capacity of 186 seats, which means 38 thousand spaces available per year.

In his speech, the secretary of tourism stressed that the time has come for Yucatan, so it will work in a coordinated way to bring together new markets and potential visitors.

“Something is happening in Yucatan, everyone has been pointing out their desire to come to this great region of our country, rich in culture, folklore and gastronomy, that’s why we have to make this sector lead to greater economic impact,” he said.
