The sale of “fake” honey like syrups, is already a thing in most major supermarkets.

They call it “unfair competition”, made with a base of high fructose corn syrup, the imitation honey may sweeten more or less the same way, yet it lacks all the natural elements and health benefits of the real deal.

The president of the Apiculture Society of the Tropic of Yucatan (Apiyuc), Tatiana Rosado Puerto, warned about this scenario that, coupled with the fact that there has not been a good production of the liquid in recent seasons, has caused the cost to drop by as much as 28 pesos per kilo in Yucatan and up to 30 pesos in Campeche. “It is necessary that the authorities check where the introduction of said syrup comes from, which is not 100% natural; in several markets of Yucatan it is already sold and is an unfair competition for the producers, the price is very low

“The products are deceptive because the label says ‘honey’ on a large scale, but in small print says syrup and that confuses the buyer. There are several national companies that already sell it, the product is made with fructose, barely has a little honey combined with fructose “

And the question arises, What are the health benefits of natural honey?

High-Quality Honey Is Rich in Antioxidants

Honey Can Lower Triglycerides

Honey Promotes Burn and Wound Healing

And that is only a few of the multiple benefits honey can have on the body, so next time you go to buy the liquid gold, choose the real organic and natural supply, if you can help out the local seller for truly fresh products.
