Lack of “young blood” in Yucatecan politics

The outlook for political parties in Yucatan is very poor, experts say.

In the absence of fresh faces, of relevant figures who have the capacity to constitute new leadership, the landscape of the political parties in Yucatan looks without much potential.

To fill those spaces that require the exercise of political activity, in the opinion of Patricia McCarthy Caballero, member of the Civic Family Front, and the researchers Rocío Quintal López, Luis Ramírez Carrillo and Efraín Poot Capetillo, the institutions resort to the recycling of “old known” personalities that do not improve the situation of a society that expects better results from its leaders.

In the second and last installment of the forum “New stars of politics in Yucatan” (Nuevos protagonistas de la política en Yucatán), organized by Grupo Megamedia (corporation that runs Diario de Yucatán newspaper), the guests responded to the people’s concerns on which politicians could form new leaderships in the near future, and they conducted a projection for the political panorama in the next three years, when the intermediate elections will take place in Yucatan.

The reflections of the specialists are not promising, since they consider that the calls to be heads of the political projects would resort to alliances and pacts between parties of different (or opposite) ideologies, in order to fulfill politicians’ personal interests and objectives.
