Mexico City and Querétaro requested the venue of the 17th, World Summit of the Nobel Peace Prize with much anticipation, but the organizers chose Mérida, Yucatán for its positive characteristics, climate of peace and services.

According to data made available by the “Find Foundation” Mexico City and Querétaro did everything possible to obtain the summit of the Nobel Prize, but the World Summit of Nobel Peace Laureates will be held from September 19 to 22, 2019 at the International Congress Center, Mérida, Yucatán.

What is the World Summit of Nobel Peace Prizes?
This meeting is recognized in the world as the most important annual event in the field of peace construction, because it brings together Nobel laureates from that category, high profile leaders, organizations, students and university professors from all over the world.

Since 1999, the summit takes place every year in different cities that are emblematic of world peace, such as Paris (Declaration of Human Rights), Berlin (German reunification) and Hiroshima (nuclear disarmament), among others.

In the last 14 years, the World Summits of Nobel Peace Laureates have been honored with the participation of numerous Nobel Laureates and Nobel Peace Prize winners, including: Mikhail Gorbachev, the Dalai Lama, Shimon Peres, Óscar Arias Sánchez , Lech Walesa, Jimmy Carter, Jose Ramos-Horta, Dr. Shirin Ebadi, Lord David Trimble, John Hume, Kim Dae Yung, Muhammad Yunus (who came to Merida, at the 2014 economic summit), as well as other recognized world leaders.

The theme of the Merida summit would be on “Reconciliation” and the secretariat of the event usually declares the host city “World City of Peace”, an acknowledgment for its efforts in the construction of peace and reconciliation.

During the year in which the declaration is active, the city will be the scene of activities, actions and projects that will make visible its potential to contribute to reconciliation, dialogue, education and diversity. That is the great importance of having Mérida as the headquarters of this World Summit of Nobel Peace Laureates.
