Yucatan successfully closed its participation as the guest state at the State Fair of León, which concluded on February 5th, exceeding its expectations of attendance with 6,059,765 visitors, eight percent more than the previous year.

During 26 days, Yucatán left its mark with a gastronomic show by the restaurant Kinich de Izamal, owned by local entrepreneur Miriam Azcorra, who offered almost half a ton of cochinita pibil to 3,500 people during the Armando Manzanero concert, held at the Forum of the Lake on the occasion of the 443th anniversary of that city of León, Gto.

The head of the Secretariat of Tourism Development (Sefotur), Michelle Fridman Hirsch, thanked Gabriel Pérez Navarro and Fabián Obregón Torres, president and director of the Board of the Fair, respectively, for the warm welcome and all the support provided.

The official highlighted the importance of strengthening ties between Yucatán and the Bajío area through the Mérida-León flight, implemented by Volaris since November 20th 2018, and that moves 2,880 people a month, in their two weekly flights.

In a short two-hour flight, the population of Yucatan has the possibility of accessing the largest industrial corridor in Latin America and continue with this cultural and commercial exchange.

It should be noted that within the framework of this great celebration, Governor Mauricio Vila Dosal signed a collaboration agreement with his counterpart from Guanajuato, Diego Sinhue Rodríguez Vallejo, with the aim of consolidating investment and tourism opportunities in that region.

The Yucatecan artisans were recognized for their work, and proudly showed their talent with the exhibition and sale of beautiful pieces, adding a profit of 350 thousand pesos, approximately.

The delegation was in charge of artisans: Pedro Galindo of the handicrafts workshop of “Henequén arte”, Enrique May of the embroidery workshop “Kike May“, Damira Escobedo of  “La pirámide” hammocks, Luis Tucuch of “Hats Jipi Japa“, Eneida Medrano from “Diseños Voga“, Mariana Morales from “Cerámica Manet“, Tere Mendoza from “Novedades Mendoza” and Ileana Reyes from “Doña Way“.

In addition, the Sefotur approached the natural and cultural wealth of the territory with measures such as the placement of the traditional Yucatecan chair in front of a mural that simulated the entrance to a cenote and where people could take photographs .

For the promotion of this event, the Board of the State Fair of Leon and Ecological Park received 75 national and 148 regional media, 37 influencers and 10 university ambassadors, who provided extensive coverage; Likewise, press conferences were held in Mérida, Mexico City and the host city León, with a great response.
