The SCT begins to work towards the making of a better highway Merida-Chetumal
The Secretariat of Communications and Transport (Secretaria de Comunicacion y Transporte SCT) will be funding more than 100 million pesos, for the remodeling of Merida-Chetumal highway.
At the moment, staff of the SCT is working on the stretch between the towns of Teabo and Tekax, within the state of Yucatán.
This works bascilly consist on expanding the road from 9 to 12 meters wide, with flexible pavement, putting drains and sewage pipes as well as optic fiber and new road signage.
Construction works are being conducted with the preservation of flora and fauna as top priorities, and taking in consideration that wild animal migration takes places continously in the area, and therefore these species natural habitat will not be detroyed at anytime.
Up to this date, 81 kilometers of road have been modernized and enlarged (including over 70 kilometers of 4 lane highway) in Yucatan, along the highway that goes through Acanceh, Tecoh, Telchaquillo, Oxkutzcab-Teabo and Tzucacab-Peto.
