The co-president of the Barceló Group, Simón Pedro Barceló, told REPORTUR.mx about their projects in the American Continent.
“The most important project we are currently embarking on in America is the construction of a new hotel in Riviera Maya, which will be our last hotel in the project we began 20 years ago in Riviera Maya. There we have five hotels, 2,600 rooms and we completed the project with a magnificent hotel that we plan to open later this year. It is the largest and most important project of the company at the moment,” the Spanish businessman told REPORTUR.mx.
Simón Pedro Barceló revealed: “we are always attentive to new opportunities, and there is nothing else at this moment to announce, but we are looking. Mexico, the Caribbean and the Dominican Republic continue to be a priority, as is Central America, where we have a presence in practically every country.
Likewise, the co-president of the Barceló Group added that in South America their presence is very small and for the moment it will continue to be so, sincethey are more focused on increasing market share in Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean.
Barceló ranked as the third largest foreign hotel chain in Mexico with 22 hotels and 8,156 rooms. Last year’s acquisition of Barceló Mexico Reforma, a 5-star 500-room property, has served as a framework to reiterate the importance that Mexico has for the chain, a country that contemplates in its growth plans. It should be noted that this country generates approximately 33% of the total EBITDA of the chain.
In the coming years, the chain will bet strong for the opening of hotels in some of the most important cities in the interior of the country, such as Guadalajara, Monterrey, Leon and Merida, without ruling out other locations that may be attractive for the urban portfolio of the chain.
