President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador (AMLO) clarified this Tuesday April 9, that there will be no tax increase or new taxes. He says the plan to re-establish vehicle ownership tax at the national level “is not true”.

“The commitments are being fulfilled,” the president said during his morning press conference from the National Palace. “That’s not true, that’s what our adversaries would like us to renege on our commitments. }That’s not going to happen, we are going to fulfill all the commitments and there are no increases in taxes, nor new taxes”.(SIC)

Yesterday, Arturo Herrera, Undersecretary of Finance, asked the Lower House of Congress to analyze the re-establishment of the tax on vehicle ownership, as well as collect taxes on the digital economy for next year, in order to obtain greater resources for states and municipalities.

Treasury ask to restore vehicle ownership tax.
While participating in the “Second Forum of Legislators in Tax Matters” undersecretary Arturo Herrera said that states and municipalities have been affected in federal participation by the government’s low collection of 13 percent of Gross Domestic Product.

Let me tell you one more thing”. Herrera said. “We are already thinking about for 2020 and how we are going to work with you […] the issue is of how to apply tax rates and how to collect in the digital economy,” Herrera said.
