For the eighteenth straight year, another edition of the “Semana de Yucatán en México” (Yucatan Week in Mexico) is hold at the “Palacio de los Deportes” (Palace of Sports) in the nation’s capital.
On the first day of the fair, Friday May 24th, there was a significant influx of visitors from all over the country.
Isabel, one of the exhibitors at the fair, comes directly from Mérida to offer her spicy sauces products with an original combination of habanero pepper and Chile Xcatic.
Isabel knows the real importance of participating in this type of tourist exhibitions. “Yucatan Week in Mexico is certainly a big showcase for us, it is specially designed to make our products known throughout the country. Which in my case is not only habanero made products, but also Xcatic sauces. And this type of event helps people to know the wide variety of things that Yucatan produces,” she said.
On Friday May 24th, the inauguration was headed by Governor Mauricio Vila Dosal, with the assistance of federal officials, business representatives and legislators.
In an interview with Mexico City based newspaper Excelsior, the Vila Dosal invited the general public to visit the “Palacio de los Deportes” and enjoy this Yucatecan feast.
“What we want to accomplish here is simple, to bring a corner of our beloved Yucatan to the capital of the country, so we make a warm invitation to all the people of Mexico City to visit our more than 270 Yucatecan exhibitors, displayed in 170 stands, where you will be able to find guayaberas, hammocks, jewelry, snacks, sauces, and a wide variety of other items”, said the governor.
Mauricio Vila also recognized that this event contributes a lot to the economy of the Yucatán Peninsula residents.
“In fact today, we can say that the “Palacio de los Deportes” is not big enough to hold the thousands of people interested in Yucatecan products, not only from the capital, but from other states across the country. This important event generates significant economic income for the exhibitors, with sales of up to 70 million pesos, and the possibility to make many business contacts and start medium and long-term relationships “, declared Vila Dosal.
“La Semana de Yucatán en México” features gastronomic and cultural products, tourist offer, typical clothing, textiles, handicrafts, sweets, embroiderings and footwear, among others, and it will be open every day at the Palacio de los Deportes in Mexico City until Sunday, June 2 (free admission).
