Bomb package explodes in Chetumal school principal’s face

On Thursday June 6th, a teacher at the Technical Studies Center Eva Sámano de López Mateos (Centro de Estudios de Bachillerato Técnico Eva Sámano de López Mateos), in Chetumal, Quintana Roo, was wounded after opening a package that contained an explosive device.

According to local media, the director of the school located on the corner of Othón P. Blanco Avenue and 16 de Septiembre Street, William Briceño Guzmán received an alleged present that did not have the sender’s signature, so he decided to open the package at the school’s administrative offices.

After unwrapping the gift box, a bomb exploded wounding the face and arms of Briceño Guzmán, who was attended by staff from the institution that ran to help him when the blast sounded. Moments later the school principal was transferred to a nearby hospital, where it was reported stable, and with no serious injuries.

 

The director of Municipal Civil Protection of Chetumal, Eusebio Rosado Sosa confirmed that the explosive attack inside the school occurred around 9:30 am.

For its part, the Attorney General of the State said that the agency is conducting the relevant investigation to find those responsible. He also reported that it was a homemade explosive device, and it contained nails to injure the victim.

No students were injured during the explosion.
