During his press conference, AMLO mentioned the case of irregular privatization and purchase of a fertilizer plant, in an 800 million US dollars transaction.
“In this case, we cannot turn the page and pretend nothing happen”, AMLO said. The Mexican president ruled out speculations and stated that this is not a personal matter.
As we know, former Pemex Chief Executive Emilio Lozoya, is wanted in a major Mexican anti-graft investigation, involving Odebrecht.
And so Javier Coello, Emilio Lozoya’s lawyer, said he could request the members of Pemex’s Board of Directors and former president Enrique Peña Nieto to appear in court.
“We will also demand the presence of those who managed Pemex after Lozoya’s departure from the corporation, they have some explaining to do, and will also request the presence of the Board of Directors members,” said Coello
(The PEMEX Board of Directors was integrated back then by the former Secretary of Finance Luis Videgaray; former Secretary of Economy Ildefonso Guajardo; and former Energy Secretary Pedro Joaquín Coldwell, among others).
According to OEM, Mexican authorities announced that the investigation focuses on money transfers that private company Altos Hornos de México AHMSA made to a “ghost” subsidiary of Odebrecht that, in turn, sent the economic resources to Lozoya and some of his relatives’ accounts, through several different transactions, including the acquisition of real estate properties.
The transactions took place just days after Pemex, the most indebted oil company in the world, bought a fertilizer plant property of AHMSA in the year 2014, for around 500 million dollars when it was valued in 50 million dollars.
During his daily morning press conference, AMLO declared that the investigation is in the hands of the Attorney General of the Republic (FGR) ” and they are going to make the right decision.”
“But there is no political persecution,” said López Obrador. “These are facts that involve alleged crimes, which have to be investigated, followed and punished, if the judges so determine.”
AMLO emphasized that he will not stop any investigation, and said that “it’s not revenge”, the FIU is instructed that all issues that arise be turned to the FGR, he said.
