Hilton has opened the first property under its Curio Collection brand in the Mexican capital.
The 59-room Umbral, Curio Collection by Hilton, is housed within a restored heritage building in downtown Mexico City which dates back to 1924.
The property overlooks the city’s metropolitan Cathedral, County Hall, and El Palacio de Hierro department store, and is two blocks from the Plaza de la Constituicion, known commonly as The Zocalo.
Interiors have been designed by local architect Javier Sanchez, with rooms featuring dark, “intimate” entrances which give way to light bedrooms through a golden framed umbral (“threshold”).
Facilities include a fitness centre and outdoor heated pool, Terraza Umbral restaurant and bar, a rooftop terrace for events, and what Hilton says is the city’s first onsite hotel art gallery.
Hilton has existing Curio properties in Guadalajara and Playa del Carmen, and will open a second hotel in Mexico City later this year, situated in the city’s Polanco district.
